INTERESTED IN DOING PILATES?
My name is Julie Thomas and after doing Pilates for almost 20 years I have recently qualified as a Level 3 Mat Based Pilates Instructor. I am planning to run a Pilates Course aimed at Beginners at Hampton Bishop Village Hall starting on Friday 30th October from 11:00 am to 12 noon.
Pilates is a great way to get into shape and is suitable for all ages and all levels of fitness - even if you have never embarked upon any form of physical fitness regime before. Pilates aims to strengthen your core muscles, improve mobility of joints, increase flexibility and increase body awareness. If you have done Pilates before, I am also doing separate classes for mixed ability on Tuesdays from 5:15 to 6:15 pm and have a couple of spaces left. Due to COVID-19, classes will be limited to a maximum of 8 people as we have to maintain a 2m distance between mats and you will need to bring your own exercise mat. The cost is £4.50 per class or £40.00 for a block of 10 classes. If you are interested in joining either the beginners or mixed ability classes, please call me on 07946 927365 or email
me at [email protected]

It plays a big part in our community and is a fantastic resource for us all to enjoy. DITCH CLEARING - delayed until 12/13 September
Ditch clearing due to take place this weekend (1/2 August) has been postponed for a few weeks due a last minute committment the contractor needs to prioritise.
Residents may have seen that verges have been cleared by Daggy Powell's Lane (lane on the corner of Rectory Road and Church Lane leading to the Lugg stank and Meadows). This is in preparation for ditch clearance on the village lanes starting on or around 1st/2nd August. The work is being overseen by contractors commissioned by Hampton Bishop parish council. This work will clear vegetation and debris allowing water to run more freely through the ditches and culverts. After the floods in February this is welcomed news!
PROPERTY FLOOD RESILLIENCE GRANTS
LATEST ROUND - Property owners in Hampton Bishop affected by flooding from storms Ciara and Dennis in February 2020 could be eligible for further financial help to protect their homes and businesses. The Property Flood Resilience Recovery Support Scheme 2020 provides up to £5,000 per eligible property to help make them more resilient to future flood. The grant covers two strands:
Recoverability (measures to minimise damage internally) - it may also be possible to claim for work already undertaken
Resistance (approaches to keeping water entering )
In some cases, particularly looking at Resistance where measures aim to keep water out of a property, e.g. flood gates, it may be worth talking to neighbours in order to capitalise on the grant and share elements such as surveys. For more details visit https://www.herefordshire.gov.uk/info/200196/roads/880/financial_support_after_a_flood/3 . Expression of interest form (access in the link) to be sent to Herefordshire Council by 31st December 2020.

St Andrew's Church Updates
As it is coming up to Easter, one of our villagers has suggested that we might like to make an Easter decoration to display outside garden gates / drives or on the wall of the Church. It will give passers-by out for their daily walk a chance to be uplifted and enjoy the displays. A lovely, creative activity we can all enjoy.

THE BIG TEA COSY
An Amazing £2000 raised for The Big Tea Cosy in aid of Breast Cancer Haven, Hereford
A huge thank you to all those who supported and donated to the coffee morning held on March 14th at Hampton Bishop Village Hall in memory of Janette Blenkinsop. With the Covid 19 pandemic looming, the hall was packed with family, friends and old neighbours as well as staff and pupils, past and present, from Mordiford CE Primary School where Janette worked as a teaching assistant for 30 years!
A sumptuous array of cakes were donated – and consumed, whilst a large raffle raised an amazing amount of money. The icing on the cake was a beautiful chocolate cake donated by Anne Hyde was raffled separately and won by Mrs Prosser from Mordiford who was celebrating her 89th birthday and the very same day!
The team at Breast Cancer Haven were blown away by the total raised. Thank you again.
